Query Description
The purpose and use of the query
The two queries I performed in the database were to:
1. To show the flights within the selected students price range, and
2. To show the flights within a selected price range.
The idea of this was to then in the form letter, print the options between that price range giving the end user a choice to their travel.
Relative and Absolute
Relative References
Relative references copy the formula you are using, but adjust it to its location.
In the above diagram, the formual In the second column repeats but adjusts to the columns around it.
for example, in my spreadsheet if there was a group of people that had the same daily expenses, instead of retyping the formula in each of their totals, i could reference the first "total" cell and fill the rest of the total cells for the other people to have their totals all add up to the same amount.
Absolute Reference
An absolute reference is when the formula is put into a different cell but it stays the same in spite of its new location
an example of an absolute reference would be if i wanted to show the total of each persons travel expenses away from the numbers, i would use an absolute reference to add the cells together and just enter the formula away from the numbers like in the above picture.
Social and Ethical Issues
Social and ethical issues relating to the use of technology
Inappropriate usage of technology:
The growing advancements in technology as well as being good because we now have faster Internet connection speeds and faster personal computers and there is always something new coming out, have the negative side to them. The inappropriate usage of technology is a growing concern. People use the Internet to steal, copy, and falsify information; new technology has been created to run weaponry to aid in modern warfare.
Identity Theft:
Identity theft is becoming more and more prominent throughout the world with the use of the Internet. When trying to buy things over the Internet, if you use a website that is fraudulent and untruthful, when putting your bank details in, they take the details, and make them their own. When putting information about yourself on the Internet, you create a digital footprint. This footprint can be in the form of a subscription to a website, an email address, or a social networking site account. Really anything that has information about you personally. Using these details, people create false identities using the names and date of birth of the person, then make that identity their own.
Privacy as an issue, in regards to the database
My database has stored on it names of students knowledge of them being 18 or under 18 and it has flight choices, accommodation choices and dates of arrival.
Firstly, I had to get their approval that said I could use their details as long as they remained private. Now, my database has personal information that I have to use properly and to the extent that I agreed with the person on. If someone outside were able to have access to the database, they would be able to gain knowledge of where this person was going to be, their name, and a rough guess of how old they are. An example, would be if there were people that didn’t like Anthony a great deal, and wanted to “catch up” with him at Schoolies, if they got hold of the information in this database, they would know where he was going to be and when he was going to be there, putting Anthony into a life threatening situation.
Another example would be if someone was able to look at the database, and they saw Justin’s details, they could easily go to the accommodation he was staying at, and check in as Justin instead of Justin checking in himself.
3 Graph Types

The Pie graph is one of the most highly used graphs because of its consistency to show a section of data against the whole data range. It is based on a 100% scale and each section shows the percentage of the whole thing. The pie graph is best used when measuring an amount against the whole data range instead of just comparing two different sets of data.
Line Graph:
Column Graph:
the column graph is used when values are compared and should only be used when the variables are easily comparable. When there are too many variables, the graph becomes too hard to read
In my spreadsheet, i chose to use the pie graph. i stayed with this choice because the type of data I was displaying and the amount of data i was displaying would not get lost or confusing because it is a graph that is used to display a data range of 3 or more different items. and it then displays each of those items against the total amount. In this case, i used it to show the spread of money over each day of each persons trip. including the total expense, the pie is split into each sector and a different colour codes each sector to the item it is displaying. having the amount around each sector gives whoever is viewing the graph a good idea of the spread of money over the different items
Data Accuracy, Integrity and Bias
Data Accuracy
Accuracy of data means the extent to which it is error free. In other words, if a data has errors in it, it is inaccurate. These errors can be caused and generated at any stage of the system including the gathering of data, the input of data, data being out of date, and the mismatch of data to a person.
An example of inaccurate data could be when entering information for the Schoolies database; a person who is under 18 is entered as being over 18.
Data Integrity
Relating to data, integrity means the reliability of the data. For data to have integrity it has to be accurate. Data integrity is achieved when data passes the ACID test.
The acid test consists of four steps.
Atomicity-
Occurs when all of the steps involved in a transaction are completed successfully as a group. If any step fails, no other step should be completed.
Consistency-
Occurs when a transaction successfully transforms the system and the database from one valid state to another.
Isolation-
Occurs if all the changes that a transaction is processed concurrently with other transactions and still behaves as if it were the only transaction executing the system.
Durability-
Occurs if all the changes that a transaction makes to the database become permanent when the transaction is committed.
Bias in Data
Bias is the straightness of data. If data is skewed then it is biased. Meaning it is controlled to a certain point to give a certain result. For example, a column can be left out of a graph to make another column more noticeable, or the way the data is scaled can distort the overall result.
